Rainy Day Songs

img_2194

It’s been pitch black all morning, and I’m still not quite used to it which makes me question why I adjust so easily to the beginning of Daylight Savings but not the end.  For reasons unbeknownst to me, the darkness is absolutely confusing, and the adjustment only gets more difficult as I get older.

In addition to the darkness, it has also been raining all morning and for the past few days.  Rain is my absolute favorite weather in the whole entire world, especially when I get to drink coffee and relax all day.  Unfortunately, that’s not necessarily what’s happening right now, because it is midterm week, but I’m looking forward to relaxing this weekend!  Now, I’m just hoping the rain will stay…

As promised, I made this playlist a few days ago, and it’s filled with all of my favorite songs to listen to while it’s rainy (imagine that).  They’re all pretty, soft, relaxing songs, some happy & some sad.  Most are of the indie rock/alternative acoustic/etc. variety, although I do listen to all kinds of genres!  However, indie rock/alternative/acoustic/and the like typically tend to be my favorite.  Feel free to comment songs you would add!

You can follow the playlist on my Spotify – just look up heysaralynn, and the playlist is called Rainy Day!  If you are not involved in the Spotify thing, the songs are posted below, and you can make your own playlist however you choose!

Last Monday, Reno had an overnight blizzard.  And by blizzard, I mean 6.8 inches of snow, which I guess doesn’t necessarily warrant the term “blizzard”, but for the love of God, it was March.  The snow was at a record high with 3 ft. falling in the Ruby Mountains. Skiers didn’t quite know what to do with themselves.  Classes were cancelled.  Chaos ensued…!

…And then today, I wore a sundress.  When spring hits in Reno, you don’t know what you’ll get, and today we got perfect, sunny mid-70 degree weather.  Tomorrow, there might be a hurricane or an ice age or something, and although that’s essentially impossible, I wouldn’t put it pass the executive at Mother Nature’s Northern Nevada Department to carry out that kind of large-scale project on such short notice.  However, today we got spring, and spring means flowers!  In Reno, March comes with hundreds of thousands  of tiny white and pink flowers all over our trees, and it is my favorite time of the year, aside from when those flowers turn into leaves and then the leaves turn into brown and red and yellow leaves and then those leaves fall to the ground.  But the tiny flowers are a close runner-up.  To match the tiny white flowers, I wore my new, thrifted maxi dress.  This dress is one of my new favorites, because 1. If you’re a 90s kid, you probably have a picture of you and your mom at your third birthday party, and your mom is wearing a dress almost identical to this one and 2. It matches perfectly with my new hat!  (For the record, I bought this hat months ago, and didn’t know what to do with it.  Then I kind of thought the hat thing might be too overrated.  Then I wore the hat and understood why everyone wears them, because they’re adorable and I’m obsessed!)

P.S. Speaking of the 90s, today I learned that, with the return of the new Powerpuff Girls series, you can go online and “Powerpuff” yourself, and let me tell you, I was excited.  I flipped open my laptop, and headed to the website to procrastinate on folding a little bit of laundry.  Right when I hit the website, I see…

THIS.  Right on the homepage.  And I mean, at this point, why even go through with it?  (But just kidding, I did anyways, because the laundry wasn’t going to procrastinate on folding itself.  And for the record, I chose a darker red hair color and a striped shirt, so there is still virtue in originality).

P.P.S. I just turned on the TV, and Clueless was on!  The dream of the 90s is alive in Portland Reno.
